model CV

for jobseekers

Use this model CV and the checklist below (together with answers to the questions in this form) to write your own CV. Or we can do the job for you: phone 377 2141 to make an appointment. We would like to meet with you to discuss your CV and any other job-search-related needs.

If you want us to help you with your CV, you would need to become a registered member of 40+ Employment (if you are not already).

Below is a model CV. Observe the following features:

  • the finished CV fills 1 or 2 (in this case, 2) pages exactly. The line spacing has been adjusted so that there are no obvious sections of completely blank paper (i.e., expand/condense anything more/less than two pages so that the print fills page[s] exactly)
  • the font is plain, and neither too large nor too small (in this case a sans serif font, Arial Narrow 11pt)
  • there are no embellishments like borders or underlining to clutter the page unnecessarily
  • bullet points and indenting create lots of 'white space', making for easier reading

The above features are all to do with format. Appearance is important, for both neatness and ease of reading. Also, note these further features, which are more to do with content and style:

  • the information is arranged under clear headings
  • no more than five bullet points per heading (no matter how important you think your information is, if the list is too long it is likely to be glanced at rather than read - or wowrse, ignored altogether)
  • all bullet points begin with a verb if possible (for stylistic consistency)
  • details about jobs go back no more than 10 years (anything earlier can be summarised in one sentence only - optional)
